I loooove Minsky's Pizza! A friend and I met here for lunch about a week ago and we ate off the gluten free menu. It was superb. I had never personally eaten anything gluten free, but this pizza was to die for! I loved the location and the atmosphere had an "old pizza parlor" feel to it. Will be there again.

Don't get me wrong, I love Minsky's pizza. This location, however, leaves a lot to be desired. The service tonight was awkward to say the least. Our waitress didn't speak loud enough for us to hear. Fortunately, I interact with teenagers on a daily basis so I could translate her mumblings. Slightly annoyed that the free breadstick promo wasn't mentioned when we ordered.. Especially since we ordered a bread appetizer. Every request seemed like a hassle. All in all, I'll just stick to every other location and enjoy my Papa Minsky's elsewhere.

We ordered a pizza for pickup and agreed that it was the worst pizza we had ever eaten, including frozen grocery store pizza. The sauce tasted like straight tomato paste, the sausage and mushroom topping was chopped so fine they were indistinguishable from each other and the crust was thin as ordered but somehow tasted brittle and fried. Just awful, will never go back.

I ordered the honey wheat crust, which I love, but it tasted like they changed it. I can usually taste a touch of the sweetness from the honey but it tasted so bland this time! Hope they didn't change it!

The pizza is cheesy, thick crust, and delicious. The house salads could use a makeover. $5 for chunks of white iceberg lettuce does not say "we are gourmet and going to stay that way". The breadsticks are hard and inedible. Always screaming kids in here so we opt for carry out. The remodel looks really nice. Stick to the pizza and you will be happy!!

Dined here last night with our party of 7. We were seated in a quiet area in the rear of the restaurant that was equipped with two TVs mounted to the wall. Service was prompt with our drink orders being expedited quickly. Once the drinks arrived, our food order was also quickly put in place. The pizza here is excellent and one of my favorite places to go in Kansas City. The only hang up with this location is they really don't have enough seating to supply their demand. The drink refills were a tad on the slow side, but didn't get to the point where it was absolutely annoying. All in all, the service was pretty good. I love this Minskey's location because of it's coziness and surrounding area.

Most of our little family is gluten-free so this I'm simply going to review their gluten-free pizza. Outstanding. This crust beats whatever that stuff is they serve at Spin! any day of the week. Plus, the sauce is flavorful and the veggie toppings are great. Normally, I steer clear of Daiya cheez but when it's on a minsky's GF pizza, it's dang tasty. Go-to for gluten free pizza cravings.

I'm going to get this out there right at the beginning, Minsky's cheeseburger pizza is the greatest pizza ever. period. semicolon. Alt+F4. Some people may tell pickles and onions on a pizza to talk to the hand, I will do no such thing. Long ago I tried other Minsky's pizzas, and I'm sure they were good, I just can't remember anymore. After you go cheeseburger, you never go back. As for the overly-family atmosphere, I never felt this way before, until... I went there last night and they had the usual kids drawings on the walls and paper and crayons at a table, but that is no big thing. Kids eat pizza too. It isn't as though there is a creepy mechanical animal band playing or balloon hats being crafted. HOWEVER, last night there was a teenage magician there and it shook to me to my very core. I just worked another 11 hour day, I'm finally relaxing with a beer and my friend and there is this constant fear that at any moment this guy is going to break in and ask us to pick a card. What did the people there do to deserve this lingering threat?

We rarely eat in the restaurant, but we do get take out often. I love the pizza, my Husband loves their Gyros. My only complaint is that I normally have to drink a gallon or so of water after because it can be salty, but it's soooo stinkin good while you're eating it!

This is the best pizza I've ever had. The toppings are quality and plentiful. The wheat crust is just the right thickness and the specialty pizzas are crazy good. Try a Mediterranean or a Papa Minsky. If you patronize the PV store, stop by Rimann Liquor around the corner and grab a bottle of wine to wash it all down.

How is this Minsky's so much worse than the one at 51st & Main? The place seems dingy and dirty. There are kids galore. Again, kids galore. The service is not attentive and doesn't seem to care much for the patrons. The food looks the same as the other Minsky's, but it doesn't taste as good. Really. Overall, just a good solid "Meh", keep driving to 51st and Main if you want what Minsky's should be.

Let's get this out of the way, I like Minsky's, I really do. The Papa Minsky with original crust is a superb pizza. But this location of Minsky sucks balls. The wife and I took our 3 kids (all under 5) so we fit right in with what other commenters have said about it being a family place. We were seated by what looked a 16 year old kid (let's call him Little Dave because he reminds me of a younger version of Dave from RJ's Bob-Be-Que). He tried to put us at a table completely inadequate for a family of 5. We had to ask to be seated in a booth. All of the tables are covered in paper and the walls are adorned with pictures that kids have drawn on the paper. So you would think they would give the kids some crayons to color with. No, I had to ask for them. We quickly surmised that Little Dave didn't have a clue what he was doing. For every productive step that Little Dave made, he had to have taken 10 steps and 3 change of directions. It really was comical. We had ordered some garlic cheese bread along with our pizzas and Little Dave brought it out. He neglected to bring out any plates for us to use. Then, comically, he seemed to remember he forgot something and brought us 1 setting of napkin wrapped silverware as if that was what we were missing. We now had 2 sets of silverware and no plates for 5 diners. The other 2 girls working the front of the house didn't seem to be that much better at their jobs. Every one of the tables of patrons had to ask for simple items like silverware, plates, the beer they ordered, salad dressing etc. The whole place was in chaos with waiters and waitresses running around accomplishing nothing. At a certain point we just started laughing about the whole thing. Our pizzas came out and tasted great. It wasn't my best Minsky's pizza ever but it was fine (I would have like the crust to have been a little more baked, I think it might have come out a minute or two early). While we were eating, the only adult working at Minsky's that night emerged from the kitchen. He walked around to each table and took care of what he could. He came over to our table and brought us a box and our ticket. If it weren't for that guy, we might still be there. As all of this was going on, Little Dave had a couple of his buddies walk in to eat. This sucked up whatever productivity Little Dave had in him. I actually watched him standing at his friends' table with his hands in his pockets just laughing and carrying on without a care in the world. In the meantime, I'm trying to keep my 3 kids in line as our window of acceptable kid behavior was quickly closing. Little Dave finally ran our card and brought back the receipt. He then gave us the same pen he tried to use when he took our order, the problem with that pen being that it was out of ink. I contemplated cutting my finger open and signing the receipt in blood rather than wait for Little Dave to retrieve another pen. But, my wife had a pen in her purse. We signed the check and fled.

Ditto what Adam C. said. I felt kind of odd sitting at this place with my gf. It's super family-oriented. There should be a warning sign outside that says "Warning: If you are not a family, turn around now and go somewhere else." I guess it was the decor and the clientele, but I felt overwhelmingly out of place. It felt like at any minute the families were going to turn into zombie families and eat the brains of anyone without kids there. Or maybe that was my overactive imagination. And the pizza wasn't great. I might try another location, but not this one. Too Twilight Zone for me; they're fun to watch, but you wouldn't want to actually be in one.

Good pizza. Not GREAT but decent. Like the sauce but maybe a bit too much of it. Portions were HUGE.

I really love Minsky's. It is amazing and dangerous to have this location close enough to deliver (not all locations are equal) because the 'za is always hot and fresh and the delivery dudes (all have been male, thus far) are really friendly. While we hardly ever dine in, I enjoy that as well. The last time we were there, they were displaying kids/teens artwork from the area. It may not be all that fancy, new and updated, but it seems clean enough and the service is good and quick. If I am feeling especially naughty, I will take the plunge and order the Prime Cut. Yeah, there *is* bacon on it. And none of that "canadian" business. Real. Bacon. My long-time favorite pizza is the pepperoni + sausage combo and the Prime Cut takes it up a notch, with both kinds of sausies, hamburger and (because it it worth mentioning again) bacon. The only bad thing about the PC is the 25 miles I have to run to burn off the calories from one slice. I enjoy their specialty pizzas - I was addicted to the cheeseburger for awhile, the tostada is great and I LOVE the Cordon Bleu - but it seems the folks I share pizza with don't like to get that adventurous. The riskiest the hubs will go is the Papa Minsky. Although there is nothing to complain about there.

I was JONESIN' for a slice of pizza after being deprived of my East Coast connection since we moved 5 weeks ago from Jersey. I just happened to stumble upon this great place when I was in Prairie Village. The pizza is juicy and melts in your mouth! I totally recommend it if you are in the mood for a great experience. 2 slices of cheese pizza for $5.89. The owner and gals that were helping me were super friendly and down to earth. They made me feel very welcomed and totally comfortable.

Minsky's Pizza is completely loaded w/ the best quality toppings. Pricey but night & day difference between the pizza huts/dominos of the world...for the better! Highly recommend!

My only real complaint here is that the cheese on the pizzas form a seriously tough kind of skin after only a few minutes from the oven. When its hot, and the cheese is still melty, it's fabulous though. The topping selections are unbeatable (California-style toppings, etc.), and their sandwiches and calzones are equally as fulfilling. I just hate that damn cheese skin it forms, like a shell over the crust and sauce...you can actually peel it entirely off with a quick motion if attempted! One time, I was holding the pizza at an odd angle, and the cheese SLIPPED off, just like that, onto the floor...kind of irritated me and grossed me out. The sauce is not my favorite either, a bit sweet for me. But if you're a pizza topping junkie or like eccentric pizzas, this place is a good match.

Minsky's Pizza is a family oriented pizza joint. I went to Minsky's in Prairie Village with a bunch of my buddies and we felt a little out of place ordering pitchers of beer and using PG-13 language. The walls are adorned with crayon drawings and the tables are filled with little league soccer teams and parents. The pizza is delicious and I had no problems with the service, just might not be a place to go with friends to get a little rowdy. As far a pizza, A-.

Need to qualify the 2-star rating. The pizza itself is 5-star, part of our rotation of excellent pizzas in town (including Waldo Pizza, Spin, Minsky's and Sutera's). The restaurant is a problem. Frequently understaffed, often cold in winter, fuzzy picture TV's, it's dark and not very comfortable. Get carry-out, but plan on waiting 10-20 minutes past the pick-up time they promise you.

  • Carrie H.

i agree with Colleen about the cheese. I ordered delivery from here and totally forgot to mention light cheese, only to open the box and find a whole 1/2 inch thick layer of the stuff blanketing the toppings. The good news is is when it's like that it's easy to peel off (one fat slice!). Made me feel a little healthier eating the whole order of hot wings and half my pizza... I would order again, pizza was tasty. Hot wings could have been spicier, though like I mentioned, I did eat them all... Loved the topping selection too! Next time I'm going to try to the signature pizza with refried beans! sounds exciting!

My roommate and I call it Yumskys. Why? Because we're both DORKS. But also because it's true. I've been regaled many times by my mom with a story of me eating about 8 slices at their buffet once when I was little. Sadly, I can't stuff my face like that anymore, but I CAN enjoy it every once in a while. The veggie pizza is FANTASTIC and the salad is great too. Yumskys. Seriously.

Went to Minsky's in PV last night. Their AC has been out since early June and from what I was told there are no plans to fix it (they apparently can't afford a new unit). The temp on the thermostat at 7:30pm was 90 degrees! Can't imagine what it was in the kitchen with the ovens going. Our salads weren't cold, so I doubt the food it being kept at a proper temp. I love Minsky's but this location is a big disappointment. They should be shut down until the problem can be fixed.

Minsky's, just so you know, this is going to hurt me to write this a lot more than it's going to hurt you... ((wipes a tear)) I got hooked on Minsky's back in '99 when I picked up a five star cheese pizza and a bottle of beaujolais. We have had a steady love affair ever since. We have been eating Minsky's Pizza for years. When we lived in Westport and Midtown we always ordered from the 39th St location. When we lived out South, we used to order from the Lee's Summit location. I used to work at 95th and Renner and often ordered lunch from the Shawnee location. We were pleased to find this store fairly close to us when we moved to Northern Overland Park. We generally order our pizza for pick up, living just outside of their delivery area. We have also dined in at this location as well. If my memory serves me the wait staff here have always been friendly and the store has always been clean. The dine in service has always been prompt. Normally the pick up drill is: I order and then leave so the pizza is as hot as possible when I get there and then I drive double time back home. The time I ordered before my most recent visit I got home and was less than thrilled with my pizza. My wife and I joked that this must have been the "three star" pizza, because there was 1/2 the cheese of a normal pizza. The cheese was not as thick and it did not go out to the edges at all. I thought I would give them a break for a while and sorta forgot about my love for them. Fast forward to present day and I've got a hankering for the delicious cheesy goodness that one can only get from a pizza with five decadent cheeses. I ask my three year old monster-princess if she wants pizza or "Chinafood?" She says she doesn't want to eat there, so I call in an order on the way from the baby sitter. I was told 20 minutes for my order. No problem - I'm on the way. While ordering my monster-princess turns on the tears because she decided she didn't want pizza after all. Its Chinafood that she desires. I arrive after about 15 minutes. I was surprised to see a newly remodeled store. They have really spruced up the place! There were a few other people waiting for their orders. I paid and had a seat with my sidekick. I was curious about a screen that blocks the kitchen view from the pass through. I favor an open view kitchen but I am sure this is for a reason other than shielding the view of the kitchen from the customers. I place an order for carryout from our go-to Chinafood place. The monster-princess is getting restless, and other orders are going out. All of these people where already there when I arrived, but I do not know when they placed their orders or how long they were waiting. I watched maybe six pizzas go out before me. Each customer greeted warmly, each customer offered peppers and cheese. A manager type person is training the "girls" as I heard him call them. There are about three of them, plus the young lady passing out pizza. I check my phone... 20 minutes have passed since I called in the order. Surely my order will be ready soon. The monster-princess is now turning in circles. Another customer comes in and leaves with two pizzas. "Hello! You're here to pick up for XX right? Cheese and peppers? Have a great night!" Now 25 minutes have passed. Thirty minutes have now passed and my name is finally called. "Your five star cheese is ready". It is placed on the counter in front of her. I say thank you and turn to walk out. Grab my monster-princess' hand and hit the road for Chinafood pickup. Maybe I had the "don't-offer-me-cheese-and-peppers" look on my face because none were offered to me. Normally I like crushed red pepper on my pizza. I didn't realize until I was on the road that none were made available to me. The monster-princess and I made it home with our pizza and lo mien combo. I was happy that the pizza was still reasonably warm. I was not too happy with the fact the dough was just barely cooked through. From the top the cheese and crust appeared reasonably bubbly, but when I took my first bite, I noticed a different texture. I looked underneath and saw a pasty white crust. There was a tiny bit of noticeable browning around the bottom edge, the inch around the perimeter- but none in the center. Maybe it was the mad "rush" before my pizza that caused my pizza to come out less than perfect. I do not know. Minsky's pizza crust is usually very good. Just the right crispiness on the outer crust. Just the right amount of chew. But not this time. Overall I was completely let down by this experience. I waited too long (drove for 15 minutes and waited for 15 minutes). I wasn't offered any cheese (and I promise I wasn't wearing a scowl) or peppers. And my pizza was undercooked. Minsky's used to be my favorite. But like Jody Watley, "I'm looking for a new love." Its a good thing I got Chinafood.

I think the one in PV kinda sucks. I definitely like the wheat crust best, but I don't think this is the best pizza around. D'bronx and pizza 51 are easily better.

While it's more expensive than your basic pizza place, Minsky's is worth the price. The cheeseburger pizza with wheat crust is my favorite. Yum!

Very good pizza....Natures Choice (veggie) with honey wheat crust includes almonds and zucchini. Pretty unique and tasty. Laid-back, kid-friendly atmosphere.

I've been a Minsky"s fan since their inception in the 70's. I was looking forward to another flawless pie which was good. My beef however is when I ordered a glass of wine. They were out of my first choice I was like OK this happens. I ordered a second choice and was surprised by the size of the pour. It just didn't seem like a good pour for a pizza joint. When asked, I brought up my surprise and the bartender poured water in a glass to compare the pour. It seems to me if your treated well and your pours are decent your going to orders second. If you feel slighted on your first pour why even order a second. My advice: get your pie and stick with a beer. Keep it simple. Especially for the bar tenderness because she gets pissed when questioned. Cheers!

I like this Minsky's well enough - it's close to our house, so placing a carryout order isn't a pain, and every time we've ordered, the pizza has been ready within the time frame they've given us, if not before. The toppings are fresh and tasty, and I would really be inclined to give Minsky's more than 3 stars...if it wasn't for the fact that every time we order from this location, it turns out that something about our order is not correct. Now, there's never been any kind of huge mistake, but it seems like this Minsky's is just not capable of leaving off a specific topping on one of their specialty pizzas, and that's annoying. I can ADD toppings, no problem, and whatever I request added on is always on the pizza, and I can order a pizza with specific toppings selected, but when it comes to ordering something like the ultimate supreme without onions, well, apparently that just doesn't compute. I have no idea why. I realize that I can just pick off whatever I didn't want on my pizza (and I always do), but it's annoying when I order something special and this location has yet to get that order right. Especially when I'm asking for something to be excluded, not something extra added on. I know, first world problems! Other than that, I have no complaints! The pizzas are good, they have some toppings that you don't find everywhere, the prices are decent, and it's close by. When I need a pizza fix, Minsky's is usually at the top of my list. All in all, I do really like Minsky's, and I will order from them again, but at this point I have learned that at this location, whatever I order will be slightly wrong and I will probably have to end up picking something off my pizza. Once I make my peace with that, I'm good to go.

I like Minsky's. The original crust is just fine here and some of the pizzas are super good.On this visit we had the Mediterranean and it was awesome. The lamb sausage was the secret ingredient. They also have some drink specials on weeknights... so beer or wine with pizza are a bit more affordable on some nights. The servers are pretty young here... they do a great job if you communicate your needs to them clearly.

I love Minsky's of course, but I LOVE this location!! The service is always great, the decor is wonderful and inviting, and the food is always awesome!! They also have great weekday specials that are very affordable when you don't want to cook or spend a lot going out. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the city for pizza :)

Horrible service. Stopped in for Sunday dinner. Party of 6. Order drinks, 2 orders of cheesy bread sticks, wings plus our meals. Once we got the cheesy bread sticks we noticed there was no actual cheese so we ask them to remake them & the waiter went back to the chicken & they told us we would have to pay double if we wantes them to remake it, at that point our party of 6 got up and walked out. How do you charge people 6.99 for some cheese-less cheese sticks? The waiter had trouble taking our drinks order, didn't bring plates for the appetizers. Not at all happy with the service doesn't help matters that we were the only Hispanic/white blended family in the building so it was all eyes on us. Wouldn't go back to this uncomfortable restaurant ever!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
